Bf 109E started reaching the Jagdgrupen through the autuma of 1939 with II/JG 54 receiving a few of the first macnines. On 22 November an E-3 dropped into Allied fingers whenever a pilot from II/JG 54 crashlanded near Worth, some twenty miles inside France. THis machine will never simply be tested by the French but was in change sent to England and in the end to the U.S. for evaluation. The new, faster and harder-punching aircraft were exceptionally welcome toward young luftwaffe pillots that, on occasion, were literally fighting because of their lives against Allied pilots.
