On 14 April 1941,1. Bf109E/TROP reached Ain el Gazala Airrield in North Africa. Whilst in transit to Sicily, where their aircraft have been tropicalized, JG 27 had briefiy performed missions in Balkans. Tropicalization included suitable a dust filter throughout the super-charger air consumption and provision being designed for emergency desert survival equipment including a carbine.
