The KrAZ-255B joined in manufacturing in 1965, with complete show manufacturing commencing in 1967. The KrAZ-255B was the direct replacement of earlier serially produced KrAZ-214 truck. The KrAZ-255B (B1) had been a subsequent model that showcased a revised stopping system. The KrAZ-255B had some visual similarities with all the previous KrAZ-214 but had a far more effective motor, a V-8 four-stroke diesel developing 240 hp to change the six-cylinder two-stroke 205 hp product of KrAZ-214. Other design improvements included a hydraulic steering booster changing the pneumatic booster for the KrAZ-214, and also the standard 14.00-20 tyres associated with the KrAZ-214 had been changed by new wide section pressure adjustable tires with a centralised tire inflation system managed by the motorist straight from cab. In 1976 the KrAZ-255B was equipped with a brand new dual-circuit braking system that replaced an earlier single circuit system, and such vehicles received the revised KrAZ-255B (B1) model designation.
