The Jimmy Carter, the 3rd and last submarine associated with Seawolf course, premiered in June 2004 and commissioned in February 2005. The submarine is roughly 30 m longer than the other two vessels of her class because of the insertion of a section known as the Multi-Mission Platform (MMP), that will be the unique feature associated with the Jimmy Carter. MMP provides improved payload abilities, allowing the submarine to support the higher level technology necessary to develop and test a new generation of weapons, sensors and undersea cars for naval unique warfare, tactical surveillance operations.
