TORNADO IDS “Black Panthers”
This strange livery, featuring a showy black colored panther in the Tornado's right back, had been made to commemorate the 70th year of task for the ETS (Electronic Warfare Tactical Suppression) 155th band of the 50th Wing “Giorgio Graffer” of this Italian Air Force. The 155th Group, with electronic warfare duties, has a black colored panther as the insignia. The livery can also be characterized by its metallic color by the roman “gladius” on its tail rudder; this recalls the badge, issued in 1931, that may be used by the first airforce pilots who specialized in assault missions. Currently this unit, situated in Piacenza, Italy, has Tornado ECRs that will employ AGM-88 HARM missiles for suppression of enemy radars. Operational duties consist of both nationwide and worldwide missions within the armed forces workout in the pipeline with other NATO forces.
