In 1940, after World War II had broken out, the united states general staff purchased different factories to develop a light multi-purpose car with all-wheel drive. The American Bantam Company, Willys Overland, and Ford Motor Co. competed with every other.Willys prototype had been selected, which, after a short run of 1500 cars, went into mass production at the beginning of 1941 and reached a complete production of 640.000 devices from which 277.000 pieces were created by Ford under a licensing contract. This implies that the Jeep was probably the most widely released light vehicle of the war industry during World War II.
