The limited 1/18 tricky mini Subaru R-2SS, Series No.9 Display Model, The model kit reproduced the actual automobile, which made its first in 1970.
This kit was final released in 1993.The complete size Subaru R-2 debuted in August 1969 and 26,000 examples were sold after just one thirty days. This compact hatchback provided good performance for the time, having its 30hp motor enabling a top speed of 115km/h. The following year in April, a sports variation called the R-2SS was released. The air-cooled 2-cylinder 356cc motor had been tuned up to 36hp, which increased the most notable speed to 120km/h, together with suspension system was fitted with a front torsion bar stabilizer to enhance cornering performance. Other modifications included bullet-shaped aerodynamic side mirrors and high traction radial tires. Having its mixture of easy design and gratification, the R-2SS distinguished it self from the other Japanese light passenger cars associated with the period. The Tamiya 1/18 model faithfully captures every detail with this late 1960's compact passenger automobile in 1/18 scale.
