Base of the Wing Revolution
The group Lotus Type 78 showcased its performance in the 1977 race season. Its innovative design showcased a slim monocoque with side pontoons, which had undersurfaces shaped like inverted aircraft wings to come up with downforce, and immediately rendered all other race vehicle designs obsolete. Both automobiles had been driven by Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson that 12 months, using the former taking victories at the U.S. western, Spanish, French, and Italiah GPs although the latter won on Belgian GP. The Type 78 additionally continued to evolve in to the even more famous championship-winning Type 79.
