Towards Nissan R390 GT1:
The R390 GT1 took its title from an automobile, R380, that excited Japanese motor activities enthusiasts over thirty years back. Jointly developed by Nissan and TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing), the R390 GT1 could be the state of the art rushing expertise of these. Aerodynamically refined low and sleek human body styling is suggestive of Nissan's extremely competitive Gr. C devices raced through the 1980's. The 3.5 liter V8 engine, creating a wonderful 600 horsepower production, is bolted right to the carbon composite monocoque and works as a load-carrying element. The tremendous power is brought to the trunk tires via a transversely mounted, six speed transmission. The four wheel double wishbone suspension system is linked to the horizontally installed shock absorbers via pushrods and bell cranks to produce optimum road managing performance.
Three R390 GT1's had been entered into the 1997 Le Mans occasion and, one of them, the vehicle No. 21 achieved a pole place in pre-qualifying competition. Although the entire result was instead discouraging, the R390's outstanding performance, shown through the very early stage of race, had been something to behold and promising for the year ahead.
