• In 1988, Mercedes-Benz returned to motorsports tournaments once again after their withdrawal in 1955. For the 1988 World Sportscar Championships, Mercedes entered the Sauber Team, and provided complete factory help towards the team with the C9, a Group C model race automobile. German electronic devices company AEG signed on since the team's sponsor which resulted in the vehicle having an eye fixed catching circuitry-like livery. The Sauber-Mercedes Team proceeded to win the opening competition in Jerez, Spain, and in addition won three from the eleven WSPC rounds.
