German Destroyer Z Class (Z37-39) "Venture Barbara"
Heading Into Struggle With More AA Weapons
Germany's Z Class destroyers were built just prior to the beginning of WWII and saw combat against British destroyers at Narvik in north Norway and as escorts the battlecruiser Scharnhorst's last sortie. The sort 1936A vessels had their 12.7cm firearms replaced with 15cm guns, and also the Z37-39 ships in particular were fitted with a twin turret on bow. In 1944, an agenda to improve anti-aircraft armament regarding the Z Class destroyers, code-named "Barbara," ended up being placed into action. These destroyers struggled the mighty Royal Navy before end associated with the war.
