Britain was given many American M10 tank destroyers beneath the Lend-Lease system. The M10 was based on the famed M4 Sherman tank, but with lighter and more very sloped armor which permitted the M10 to achieve higher speeds. The British switched the original U.S. 3-inch weapon along with their own effective 17-pounder on over 1,000 M10s, changing the title to IIC, or sometimes called "Achilles". As the brand new gun required a muzzle braking system to be fitted onto the automobile, other changes were limited to thicker front and part armor, plus a turret-top shield. With 2014 marking the 70th anniversary of this D-Day operations, the Achilles provides for a welcomed addition to the 1/48 Military Miniatures show.
