With a robust 8.8cm weapon effective at taking out Russian T-34s and KV-1s from range, plus armor around 200mm dense, the Elefant hefty tank destroyer was a solid prospect. Originally known as the Ferdinand, 90 were created by May 1943 and in their first combat action in Battle of Kursk that July, they are believed to have accounted for over 500 Russian tanks. But after Kursk these people were withdrawn for an overhaul and returned in February 1944 re-named the Elefant. These people were active in Italy as well as on the Eastern Front, also being thrown in the defense of Berlin as WWII received to a detailed in Europe.
