The Challenger demonstrated and proved its combat worth during the recent Gulf Conflict. In addition to painting the tank with a general sand color, numerous improvements for wilderness operations were accomplished, including a better cooling system; better air cleaners; a strengthened transmission; additional part skirts from Chobham armor for additional security, plus bolt-on Reactive armor applied to the frontal area; one more 200 liters of gas was carried in outside tanks mounted on a corner of this tan, which significantly extended its range; extra external stowage containers; while the use of low or zero maintenance batteries.
Despite operations into the harsh wilderness environment, the Challengers maintained an outstanding "in solution" and access figure that surpassed 90per cent. This accomplishment, and its accurate and hefty firepower, pointed to the Challenger as being one of the better main battle tanks used throughout the Conflict.
