About the Challenger 2

Set alongside the Challenger 1 MBT that saw solution through the Gulf War, the Challenger 2 features improved 2nd generation Chobham armor effective at withstanding armor piercing and form charge rounds. The fire control system ended up being updated with the latest electronic technology, including a panoramic commander's sight with integrated laser rangefinder and a thermal gunner's sight. The 120mm L30 rifled primary gun provides improved muzzle velocity and precision, and enables the Challenger 2 to discharge armor piercing, HESH, smoke and depleted uranium rounds. Special changes to tanks implemented to Iraq included reactive armor added to the front, composite armor on sides, a unique address to cut back exhaust temperature, canvas skirts to lessen dirt ingestion, Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV) and overcome Identification Panels (CIP).
