• At the beginning of 1930, the British military made the decision to create tanks for various roles, with production for the A12 "Matilda" beginning in 1936. In those days, the Matilda had the thickest armor at 60mm, came armed with a 2-pounder cannon, and had dense part skirts which safeguarded the "Japanese type" bogies. Running on two diesel engines, the Matilda had a top speed of 24km/hr that was deemed appropriate since it matched the walking speed of infantry. During the North African front side, thanks to its impenetrable armor, the Matilda completely defeated the opposing Italian forces.
