Capable of accommodating 4 workers, the JGSDF Light Armored Vehicle is equipped with a 160hp liquidcooled 4-cycle 4-cylinder diesel motor, letting it reach top speeds of 100km/h. Weighing simply 4.5 tons, it is able to be carried by a CH-47J helicopter or C-130H transport aircraft for crisis air-drops. In 2004, Light Armored Vehicles had been deployed in Iraq to indulge in the Japan Ground self defense purposes Force's humanitarian help mission.
A shaft-driven 4WD high mobility chassis
This model is equipped with 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension with oil dampers and block tires that allow this model to run on just about any terrain. With all the HMV Hayate and Type 73 Small Utility Vehicle installed with small armor and having bad defense capabilities, in 1997 the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) started development on a new high-mobility light armored transportation vehicle. With the capacity of accommodating 4 personnel, the JGSDF Light Armored Vehicle is fitted with a 160hp liquidcooled 4-cycle 4-cylinder diesel engine, allowing it to reach top speeds of 100km/h. The weapon mount on the top is fitted with a 5.56mm machine gun or Light Anti-Tank Guided Missile. Automobiles implemented to Iraq had been fitted with reinforced bulletproof windshields.
