This WWII fighter was a daring design with double booms and a piston motor in each, plus a central nacelle which housed the cockpit and armament (device guns and cannon within the nose). Introduced in June 1941, the aircraft proceeded to be used extensively in Pacific through WWII. The F variation had been manufactured from April 1942 onward, and featured pylons for 150-gallon fall tanks to make it effective at longer bombing missions. Later on P-38Gs had stronger engines and may carry bigger 300-gallon drop tanks. The P-38 was employed for interception, dive bombing, level bombing, ground assault, evening fighting, picture reconnaissance, radar and artistic pathfinding for bombers and evacuation missions, and extensively as a long-range escort fighter when loaded with drop tanks under its wings.
