The British RAF's Lightning F.Mk.6 interceptor features a unique two vertically mounted motor design. Belated version F.6 had been built with an upgraded motor and further fuel tanks on top of the wings. The Lightning undertook air protection solution for longer than two decades, retiring in 1988.
