Within 1989 Geneva engine Show, the 500SL had been revealed as Mercedes' top-of-the-line covertible sports vehicle. While quite powerful in stock form, AMG took the car even further with special improvements including increasing the engine displacement from 5 liters to 6 liters for a 381hp production. Aerodynamic enhancements such as front bumper, side skirts and rear spoiler, plus a strengthened suspension provided the vehicle a customized feel.
