The PL-37 was the standardized light artillery wagon for Soviet light armored trains in the first years of World War II, with about two dozen built. It followed similar pattern while the earlier in the day PL-35 with modest changes in the construction associated with turret and superstructure. Although the wagon ended up being fairly big, it had little free area inside due to considerable ammunition stowage. Because of its vulnerability to atmosphere assault, camouflage artwork was prevalent, though the style depended regarding the unit, in this instance a pattern of black and sand over the usual olive green.
