In September of 1939, Krupp received a design proposal from for a purpose-built self-propelled howitzer. Unlike previous motorized artillery, this was maybe not an adapted or converted automobile, but alternatively expressly created for this part. A 10.5cm le.F.H.18/1 had been mounted in an open-topped turret. The light industry howitzer could possibly be rotated in this turret through a 70-degree arc. The sides associated with the turret were tapered downward toward the trunk, allowing exemplary side visibility. The latest car, initially known as Pz.Sfl.IV b, had been later designated Gesch-tzwagen IV b f'r 10.5cm le.F.H. 18/1(Sf) (Sd.Kfz 165/1). Two cars had been purchased for evaluating, of delivered in January 1942. Also before that, during Fall 1941, a number of 10 of this new automobiles were ordered for troop trials.
