USS HANCOCK CV-19 Length general: 270.8m Beam maximum: 44.9m Displacement standard: 27100t Full load: 36380t Hancock had been the first of the ''long hull'' Essex course carriers to be finished, being commissioning in April of 1944. Hancock first saw action with all the Third Fleet in attacks on Formosa, the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. In 1945 the carrier took part in assaults on Indo-China, Okinawa, and Japan itself. Damaged in an aircraft explosion in January 1945 and once again by kamikaze hit in April, Hancock came back to be a part of Magic Carpet operations. She was withdrawn from solution 1n 1947, and after modernization and additional solution, was scrapped in 1976. Hancock was awarded the Navy product Commendation and received four battle movie stars for service in World War II
