Up to the end of the war, the Allies would not introduce anything that could effortlessly counter it. The Tiger II combined a powerful and effective weapon with armor that was practically impervious to any Allied tank or anti-tank gun. Planning the Tiger II started as early as might 1941, a year ahead of the Tiger we entered production. By nov 1942/January 1943, developers began work with a new heavy tank that would eventually replace the Tiger we. In January 1943, Hitler ordered this new Tiger to be armed with an extended 88mm weapon and also have 150mm frontal armor and 80mm side armor.
